The amazing thing about these artists is none of them could claim they had any real formal training. None of them had a fancy studio with a skylight for the northern light to shine on their makeshift drawing table. They didn’t own file cabinets filled with reference material nor have models pose for them. For reference, a few copies of National Geographic, some old illustrated magazines and if you’re really lucky, maybe a copy of Andrew Loomis book on figures. On the whole, they simply observed and remembered.
